Pomegranate is one of the ancient fruits, as the ancient peoples knew it, and discovered many of its properties and benefits, and mentioned this on the walls of its temples and among the records of its books, and its image was engraved in its statues and drawings. The two countries the pomegranate moved to North Africa, Egypt, the White Sea basin and Europe.
Pomegranate is of three types: sweet, sour and mild, and its features and characteristics differ according to its type, and due to the difference in the percentage of sugars in it. The sweet type contains citric acid by 1%, sugar by 7%, protein by 1%, fibre by 2%, and ash by the proportion of 4.7%, fat by 3%, water by 81.3%, and it contains trace amounts of mineral salts, especially iron, and vitamin (w).
As for the solid part of the pulp of the pomegranate - which is its seeds - the protein content rises to 9%, and the fatty substances to 7%.
Pomegranate is eaten as a fruit in the summer, and it is added to some other foods in the form of pumice, or “seeds” or “slice”, and it is also added to some cooked materials to adorn it with its pearly red grains, and a type of “molasses” is used in winter days as acid.
It seems that the public has realized one of the main benefits of pomegranate, which is its digestive property, especially with regard to grease and fat. They use it with some heavy foods, especially grilled kibbeh, and this helps to digest it and get rid of the large intestine from it.
As for pomegranate peel, it is no less useful than its pulp, as it contains 38% acid
"Glow Tanik" and on "Pelitrin" is useful for boiling the peels in cases of diarrhoea and has a strong effect in expelling the single worm from the intestine. The properties of the peels are used to stabilize the colours, and it is used in tanning leather and in pigmentation with henna.
